Frequently Asked Questions

We have tried to generalize the most common questions about on line giving and to present the answers on this page.

Q: What methods can I use to make an online contribution to Mars Hill?

A: You can use either your personal bank account, credit card, or debit card. We use PayPal to securely process online giving transactions for us.
Another payment option is online banking available from most banking institutions. Contact your bank to find out more about this option and what financial information you’ll need from the church.

Q: What church funds can I contribute to?

A: We currently accept online contributions to our General Fund,  our Prayer Garden Fund, and Memorial Donations. Gifts to the General Fund are used for benevolence, mission and outreach as well as to pay for the all of the ongoing expenditures of Mars Hill that are not otherwise handled through their own special fund designation (e.g.maintenance, utilities, and salaries are all paid for from this fund). Gifts to the Prayer Garden Fund will be used for the completion of the project and continuing maintenance of the Prayer Garden.

Q: Can I contribute money to any of the other missions that Mars Hill supports?

A: We currently accept online contributions to our General Fund, the Prayer Garden fund and Memorial donations. If you would like to contribute to one of our supported missions, you can do so by sending us a check, made payable to Mars Hill Presbyterian Church and mailed to the address on our contact page, with the name of the mission to which you are giving clearly designated on the check.

Q: Is online giving secure?

A: All of your giving data are secured by SSL encryption. SSL is an acronym for "Secure Socket Layer", a security protocol that provides communications privacy over the internet. It is the same technology used by banks and e-commerce companies to keep your information safe and secure during transactions. No personal financial data will be kept on the Mars Hill  website.

Q: Are there any fees for using PayPal to make a donation?

A: PayPal charges a modest 2.2% plus 30¢ per transaction. If you wish to make a $100 donation and the church receive $100, then make the donation $102.56. The entire amount is tax deductible.

Leaving a legacy through an endowment is an expression of your faith that will provide a perpetual stream of support for your Church. Through a bequest in your will or trust you can not only create a lasting legacy you may reduce estate taxes. Establishing an endowment to Mars Hill Presbyterian Church provides future support for your Church while allowing you to continue the enjoyment and use of your assets now. Your bequest may include cash, securities, real estate, or personal property.

Endowments may be either restricted or unrestricted. Unrestricted funds are used to meet the needs of the Church as determined by the Session as part of the annual budgeting process. Restricted funds have a dedicated use such as particular mission or outreach program or specific activities of the church.  It is highly recommended that the restrictions be made subject to the wisdom of the Session to alter the terms of the restrictions in the event that changing conditions make it impossible, impracticable or undesirable to fulfill them.

For further details about endowments please contact the Church Co-Treasurers, Randy and Daisy Dunlop.

There are different kinds of gifts, but the same Spirit.

In addition to our regular Sunday morning worship service the Christian calendar has days for special worship. Examples are the Advent season leading to Christmas, the season of Lent and Holy Week leading to Easter Sunday.
Although the pastor usually leads these worship services there are opportunities for you to assist and participate in the services.

Music is an important part of our worship experience. Can you sing, join the choir. Can you play an instrument, glorify God with your talent.

Share your friendly smile by volunteering as a greeter and usher.

We celebrate Holy Communion the first Sunday of each month and at special services as well. Can you help with the preparation and clean up once or twice a year?

Our worship service is streamed live on YouTube. Volunteer to turn  the computer and equipment on and off.

The Worship Committee awaits your call and God awaits your service.

The Christian Education Team of Mars Hill Presbyterian Church is committed to the congregation and children by providing a place to learn and grow in the word of the Lord. We work to ensure that everyone:
has knowledge of God through scripture,
has leaders who help them grow in faith,
Knows that they are valuable for who they are, a loved child of God.

Matthew 28:19-20 Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.

Perhaps you are a skilled do-it-yourselfer or even a professional in the many areas of building and equipment maintenance and repair.

Our building and its grounds are our physical home. Like your home, things occasionally break, need repair and just need a bit of careful attention. It has always been a tradition to fix it ourselves if at all possible, thus enabling our resources to be better utilized and spent on our missions and service.
